Irwin Award presented by the Academy of Management for scholarly contributions to management and numerous awards for articles and books. Professor Gary Latham is the Secretary of State Professor of Organizational Behavior, University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management; a past president of the Canadian Psychological Association; and president of the Society of Industrial & Organizational Psychology. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the American and Canadian Psychological Associations, the Association for Psychological Science, the Academy of Management, and the International Association of Applied Psychology. He has received both the awards for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology as a Profession (1998) and as a Science (2002) from the Society of Industrial & Organizational Psychology. Professor Latham has received the Distinguished Scholar/Practitioner Award from the American Academy of Management and the Heneman Career Achievement Award from the Human Resource Division of the Academy. In 2006, he was the Society’s recipient of the prestigious $50,000 Michael R. Losey Human Resource Research Award. In 2007, Professor Latham received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management. In 2008 he received the Thomas A Mahoney Mentoring Award from the Human Resource Division of the Academy of Management for lifetime mentoring of graduate students, and the Harry Levinson award from the American Psychological Foundation for lifetime contributions to consulting in organizational psychology. Professor Latham served on the Board of Governors of the Center for Creative Leadership, 2001-2007, and is currently teaching courses in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior. His research includes employee motivation, performance appraisal and training.
