Obama's Chief Performance Officer

President Obama is trying to make his government synonymous with the words efficient, effective, and goal-oriented. How? By creating a Chief Performance Officer. Jeff Zients, formerly of the Advisory Board Company and the Corporate Executive Board, has been named to the position. Part of the CPOs job is to implement a performance management system that people will actually use.

The test of a performance management system is whether it is used…the current approach fails this test. Congress doesn’t use it. Agencies don’t use it. And it doesn’t produce meaningful information for the public.”
