64% don’t receive frequent recognition at work
Based on the Towers Watson “Turbocharging” Employee Engagement Report Part 1, 36% of employees frequently receive recognition at work.
I think we can all agree that it feels awesome to get recognized for our efforts when we do something great at work. So why don’t more people give what they want to get?
There are so many great ways to give recognition, it doesn’t even have to take more than 10 minutes out of your day. A McKinsey study found that praise from managers and project leadership, and leadership attention are more effective motivators than financial incentives. So to be honest, the failure results not from the lack of recognition methods, but from the execution of the manager role.
It’s becoming more important for managers to tend to the needs of their employees as the Millennials continue to have a greater influence in the workforce. Their ideas of ongoing feedback and recognition are rubbing off on the other generations and everyone is starting to agree that if they don’t find what they want, they will find it somewhere else.
