Get creative with custom badges!

One of the coolest features of Rypple are custom badges. They can allow you to really let your Rypple reflect the values and culture of your organization, including the language, design and humor! We worked with AutoReturn on a custom badge contest and spoke with Autoreturn’s Business Analyst Anna Tong about their process:

How did you set up your contest?
When we decided to host a personalized badge contest at AutoReturn we assembled a team of a few people who worked in different parts of the company and talked about the challenges we face and how we usually complimented each other on a job well done. We came up with a list of thirteen badges, some very company-specific (like iCRISP, an acronym for our corporate values), and generic (high five).

What sort of time frame did you use?
I gave people two weeks to submit their own badges, and told them they could submit to as many categories as they wanted.

What were some challenges? How did you solve them?
Getting entries for us was difficult, because we don’t have a graphics team and most people do not have any drawing programs on their computer. Some people don’t even have computers!
Also, we had a problem with submitting entries that would look good when cut down to 72 pixels by 72 pixels. For anybody that is running a Rypple contest in the future, I would recommend really emphasizing this to the employees.
We solved this by having people draw things by hand and fax it over to me, then I edited them in Photoshop/Illustrator to make them pretty.

How were your results?
The best entries we got were for categories that were undefined and required some creativity, such as our “iCRISP,” “wild card” and “food” categories. People really went wild with those and we got some really funny and interesting entries.
