51% Of Leadership Ability is Learned
Nature vs. Nurture
Here’s a surprise: your genes only account for 49% of your leadership qualities. At least that was the finding of the inspiringly named report, Genetic Underpinnings of Transformational Leadership: The Mediating Role of Dispositional Hope. Led by Sankalp Chaturvedi of Imperial College, London, researchers surveyed of hundreds of twins in order to find out the importance of providing training to develop managers’ abilities to practice transformational leadership.
The study proves that the effectiveness of any leader is something that can be changed. By following management best practises, like coaching teams through feedback and recognition, any manager can improve. To start, try asking your team for feedback.
