Facebook’s Secret Ingredient for Employee Engagement
What’s the secret ingredient that has enabled Facebook to grow from a group of 20-something’s in a rented house in Palo Alto into one of the fastest growing companies on the planet?
Last week, Facebook senior executive Molly Graham, the company’s former manager of culture and employment branding, spoke to a closed-door session at the HR Technology Conference and Expo in Las Vegas about the social network’s approach to engaging and managing its rapidly expanding workforce.
Facebook is staffed largely by so-called Millennials, a generation that has been maligned for being needy, demanding, and distracted. Molly explained how many of these perceived flaws have actually provided the company with important advantages as they grew from 1 million users in 2004 to more than 800 million today.
Two years ago, Facebook began working with Rypple to develop a social performance review process in keeping with the company’s collaborative, iterative, and fast-moving culture.
In her presentation, Molly discussed:
- How Facebook gets the most out of its Millennial workforce
- How Facebook uses Rypple to encourage a culture of continuous feedback, coaching, and public recognition
